Each year, the Oregon Association Chiefs of Police provides $1000 scholarships to students who are enrolled in a criminal justice program at a college, community college or university. The number of scholarships will vary from year to year and applications may be submitted for any quarter or semester during the school year. The following information will help you determine if you qualify for scholarship consideration and will help you understand the application process:

Do You Qualify?

  • Are you enrolled as a criminal justice student at the college you attend?
  • Have you demonstrated a desire to enter a criminal justice or law enforcement career?
  • Have you maintained a grade point average above 2.5? (3.0 for High School Seniors)

(Note: PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS OF AN OFFICER THAT HAS BEEN KILLED OR DISABLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY.)

Four Easy Steps To Apply...

  1. Download and complete the scholarship application form located below. Make sure you qualify based on the criteria noted above and submit your application by the deadline posted.
  2. Obtain a cover letter of recommendation from the criminal justice program director, a criminal justice instructor or a financial aid department representative at the college you attend. High school seniors will need to obtain a cover letter recommendation from a teacher or high school counselor. This letter will be submitted to the Oregon Association Chiefs of Police along with the completed application form.
  3. Obtain a signature from your local police chief on the application form indicating that you are recommended to receive scholarship funds.
  4. Mail the cover letter of recommendation, completed application form, a brief biography and a current photo to:

What Happens Next?

The Oregon Association Chiefs of Police Scholarship Committee will review the application materials and will award scholarships based on available funds. Most scholarships will be awarded in advance of the beginning of each school year but the committee may award additional scholarships based on availability at other times during the year..

Once a determination is made, you will receive a letter in the mail notifying you regarding the decision of the scholarship committee.

If you are selected to receive a scholarship, the funds will be sent to the financial aid department of the school you attend identifying you as the recipient of the funds.
